There’s something extra special about watching a little one grow—and celebrating their first birthday is such a milestone! I first photographed sweet baby Hugh as a newborn, and now, just like that, he’s back in the studio for his one year old session. It’s truly one of the best parts of my job: building relationships with families and getting to capture their biggest moments over the years.

For Hugh’s cake smash session, we kept it fun, simple, and all about him (with a little help from his big brother Truman, who joined in for the cake-eating fun)! It was the perfect mix of sweet smiles, messy hands, and pure joy—the kind of memories every parent wants to hold onto forever.

From Newborn Pictures to One Year Old Celebration

It feels like just yesterday I was photographing Hugh’s newborn pictures, capturing those tiny details and sleepy cuddles. Now, seeing him sitting proudly, full of personality, diving into his birthday cake—it’s such a beautiful reminder of how quickly that first year flies by.

Hugh’s bright eyes and cheeky grins lit up the studio, and once the cake came out, he was all in! His big brother Truman jumped in to help with the cake tasting (because really, cake is better shared). Their sibling bond made for some of the most heartwarming moments of the session.
