John Ball Zoo Wedding

Fall Wedding at the Bissell Tree House at John Ball Zoo | Grand Rapids Wedding

A fall wedding at the Bissell Tree House at John Ball Zoo is one of those Grand Rapids experiences that feels both tucked away and completely iconic. Elevated above the zoo with sweeping views of the city, this venue offers a rare mix of modern architecture, warm wood textures, and Michigan fall color—making it a standout choice for couples planning a Grand Rapids fall wedding.

Rosalyn and Jordan’s October celebration leaned fully into the season: golden leaves, crisp air, and a relaxed, joyful pace that let the day unfold naturally.

A John Ball Zoo Wedding in Peak Fall Color

Set inside John Ball Zoo, the Bissell Tree House feels suspended in the trees. On October 24, the surrounding foliage brought deep ambers and soft greens that wrapped the ceremony space in warmth without overpowering it.

The ceremony and reception both took place at the Tree House, allowing guests to stay present and connected all day. The indoor–outdoor flow made it easy to enjoy the terraces, city skyline, and cozy interior spaces—perfect for a Michigan fall wedding where weather can always surprise you.

Why the Bissell Tree House Works So Well for a Grand Rapids Wedding

This venue photographs beautifully for a few key reasons:

  • Natural light + wood tones that keep skin tones warm and true
  • Elevated city views without feeling urban or busy
  • Minimal décor needed—the architecture and setting do the work
  • Seamless ceremony-to-reception flow, ideal for guest experience

If you’re searching for a John Ball Zoo wedding venue that feels intimate but still memorable, the Bissell Tree House hits that balance effortlessly.

Rosalyn’s gown from Becker’s Bridal paired beautifully with the fall setting—classic, elegant, and timeless. Jordan and the groomsmen wore tailored suits from Woodland Tailoring, keeping the look refined and cohesive.

Florals by Poppy added soft texture to the ceremony arbor and bouquets, while the reception tables featured Costco florals assembled by the couple and family—proof that thoughtful styling doesn’t have to be complicated to feel personal.

The overall design felt relaxed, intentional, and very real—exactly what a fall wedding should be.

Reception Energy & Experience

Dinner was catered by Kangaroo Kitchen, with bar service provided on-site through the Bissell Tree House. Music by A Moment In Time kept the energy high without overpowering conversation—always a win.

Cake and desserts from Costco kept things simple and crowd-pleasing (and honestly? Always a hit).
